Elena Rybakina v Shelby Rogers Head to Head

The two ladies have met just once on the tour; Rogers won that encounter in the 2020 US Open with 7-5, 6-1.

Rybakina Fresh off a Brilliant Run in Paris

The 21-year-old Kazakh had a pretty remarkable time in the Roland Garros. She delivered the best Grand Slam result of her career by reaching the quarterfinal. Even though she fell to the eventual runner-up Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, it wasn’t before she dispatched the likes of Elena Vesnina and Serena Williams on the way to the final eight.

Currently ranked World No. 21, that performance in Paris was also the best one of her season yet. In all the preceding tournaments this year, Rybakina never managed to navigate her way past the opening rounds. Except for WTA Abu Dhabi where she was a quarterfinalist, Rybakina fell in the opening rounds of the Australian Open, WTA Dubai, WTA Charleston, and Madrid Open.

Last year, Elena reached the final in five WTA events, going the distance in one of them – the Hobart International. She followed that with runner-up feats in the St. Petersburg Trophy, Dubai Championships, and Strasbourg Open.

Needless to say, Rybakina has done well to establish herself as a formidable opponent. She is young, confident, and soaring with pure talent.

Rogers Battling Mediocrity of Late

Shelby Rogers started her season on a fantastic note but since then, her form has taken a sharp hit. Reaching the fourth round in the Yarra Valley Classic and the Australian Open, the 28-year-old American couldn’t quite manage to retain that momentum after those events.

In the Miami Open and WTA Dubai, Rogers was beaten in the second round.  At the onset of the clay season, however, she did show some promise by reaching the third rounds in the WTA Charleston (250 and 500 Series) but lost respectively to Danka Kovinic and Ashleigh Barty.

After that, Rogers featured in four tournaments and managed to pick up just one win – a first-round victory against Christina McHale in the Strasbourg Open. In the French Open, Rebecca Peterson stopped her in the tracks with a three-set win.

As for her form on grass, it hasn’t been that great either. In the 2019 grass swing, the best she achieved was reaching the second round in the Mallorca Open as a qualifier.

Rybakina v Rogers Prediction and Tip

Rybakina will start this game as the favourite and can very well win here with ease. Rogers may have the experience but her lack of form and momentum will prove to be a bit problematic for her.
