Rublev Starts Well in Halle

23-year-old Andrey Rublev is off to a winning start in the grass swing, beating his compatriot Karen Khachanov 6-3, 7-6(5). Having enjoyed a pretty spectacular and consistent spell in the first half of the season, the Russian will now hope to emulate something similar in the second half.

At the moment, he is enjoying his best singles ranking on the tour, thanks to his title-winning runs in the ATP Cup and Rotterdam Open, and the runner-up feat in the Monte Carlo Masters. But that is not all – Rublev also reached the quarterfinal in the Australian Open and semifinals in Doha, Dubai, and Miami back to back.

The number 4 seed here in Halle also had penultimate-round runs in a few clay tournaments, notably the Barcelona Open and Italian Open. Keeping aside his first-round defeat in the French Open, it goes without saying that Rublev has been one of the most consistent performers on the ATP Tour this season.

The list of players he has beaten this season comprise the likes of Rafael Nadal, Marin Cilic, Stefanos Tsitsipas, Fabio Fognini, and Roberto Bautista Agut.

Second Win on Grass for Thompson in 2021

The 27-year-old Jordan Thompson started his grass season last week in Stuttgart, where he made it to the second round before falling to the Aussie youngster Alex de Minaur. As fate would have it, it seems like he is destined to incur a similar fate here in Halle too, this time at the hands of a Russian youngster.

Currently ranked #81, Thompson’s season so far is dotted with mediocrity. In a majority of the tournaments he has played in so far, the Australian has never made it beyond the second round. Case in point, in the six clay tournaments he featured in this season, he managed to pick up just two wins.

At the start of the season, he did reach the quarterfinal ATP Melbourne but couldn’t quite get around to building on that momentum.

Over here in Halle, he overcame Daniel Altmaier 6-2, 7-6(4) to reach the second round.

Rublev v Thompson Prediction and Tip

Rublev will start this match as the heavy favourite (no surprises there) and he should be able to get this one in straight sets. After all, he has the skills, form, and is soaring high on confidence.

Tip: Rublev to win in straight sets: 8/13 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
