Karolina Pliskova v Jessica Pegula Head to Head

The two players have met thrice this season and surprisingly, Pegula has emerged as the winner in all three matches. They last met in the Miami Open earlier this year where Pegula won 6-1, 4-6, 6-4.

Pegula Gets a Walkover into Second Round

Jessica Pegula started her grass swing against her qualifying compatriot Hailey Baptiste in the opener. The first set was heading into a tie-break at 6-6 before Baptiste withdrew from the match with an injury.

Pegula now finds herself against a top 10 player whom she has defeated thrice this year, but never on grass. The 27-year-old American is fielding a win-loss tally of 23-10 on the back of which, she reached her career-best singles ranking as World No. 26.

Her defining run came in the Australian Open where she reached the quarterfinal after upsetting Victoria Azarenka, Samantha Stosur, and Elina Svitolina. She followed that with a semifinal appearance in WTA Qatar as a qualifier, and another quarterfinal run in Dubai.

Through the clay swing, Pegula was not this impressive but she did reach the quarterfinal again – this time in the Italian Open. Her last event was the French Open where she fell in the third round to Sofia Kenin.

In light of the season that she is enjoying right now, Pegula will certainly look for a deep run in grass tournaments too. However, this may be unchartered territory for her.

Pliskova Looking for a Good Run on Grass

Karolina Pliskova started the season as World No. 6 but on the back of an uneventful season, she has now dropped to 10th place. Except for the Italian Open where she was the runner-up, the Czech has never really managed to move beyond the early rounds.

In the Madrid Open and French Open, she was beaten in the second round. Something similar was the story in the Australian Open swing too. The 29-year-old lost in the third round of Yarra Valley Classic and the Melbourne Slam to Danielle Collins and Karolina Muchova respectively.

Enjoying a bye into the second round here in the German Open, the number four seed has got a pretty impressive pedigree on the grass. In the 2019 grass swing, Pliskova won the Eastbourne International title and later reached the fourth round at Wimbledon.

Pliskova v Pegula Prediction and Tip

Pegula holds all the cards heading into this fixture but Pliskova’s experience in grass tournaments may just prove to be her saving grace. However, having lost to the American thrice this year already, she may be a bit nervy and Pegula can definitely exploit it to reach the quarters.
