Munar’s Never Won on Grass. Ever.

Forget main draw matches at grass court competitions, Munar’s never won a match on grass across qualifiers, Challengers or Futures tournaments. Not that he has played too many but for a player in the top 70 to have yet to register a victory would be quite a surprise.

And he now looks to open his account on this surface in a city of his birth.

The Mallorcan-born Munar has had an interesting 2021 season so far. Opting not to play a single match on hard court surfaces either, the Spaniard has featured in 13 competitions this year, spread across Challengers and ATP main, and reached the final at four of them. He went on to win one.

More recently, Munar was a finalist at the Marbella Open and then made it as far as the semifinal in Parma before emulating his career-best showing of a second round appearance at a Grand Slam when he got there at Roland-Garros.

Can he now open his account on grass?

Sandgren Hoping to Emulate 2019 on Grass

Sandgren has been on the tennis circuit for a while now but coming into the 2019 season he had played just one main draw match on grass and won nothing. In 2019, he turned things around with two solid performances on this surface.

The American raised a few eyebrows with a run to the fourth round at Wimbledon and then followed it up with a quarterfinal at Newport.

Since then Sandgren has etched himself into Australian Open echelons as well with a memorable match against Roger Federer last year, one that would have taken him to his maiden Australian Open semifinal had it not been for a monumental choke.

This year has been in sharp contrast to that showing in Melbourne. In the 11 tournaments he has played so far in 2021, Sandgren has won just three matches and with no form to speak of, the American will have his work cut out even while playing an opponent who has himself not had the best time on grass.

Munar v Sandgren Prediction and Tip

It’s Munar’s inexperience on grass going up against Sandgren’s horrible form and between the two we will be backing the former to come through. Might take him three sets but Munar to make the second round here.

Tip: Munar to win in three sets: 3/1 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
