Jessica Pegula v Katerina Siniakova Head to Head

There has only been one previous meeting between these two players and that came in the 2019 Washington Open. Pegula had won that in straight sets.

Pegula Cruises Past Hesse

After making it to the quarterfinals in Berlin last week, Pegula kick-started her campaign here in Bad Homburg with an easy opening round victory.

The American defeated Amandine Hesse in two easy sets in less than an hour to proceed to the second round. It was based around two early breaks in the first set and then saw Pegula break her opponent in the third game of the second set as well to shut out Hesse.

Pegula herself faced just one break-point and easily saved it to carve out a 6-1, 6-2 win.

Having never won a match on grass before this season, Pegula has already made it three wins this year. A loss to Victoria Azarenka in Berlin might have been bit of a dampener but this rout of Hesse should lift her spirits coming into her second round match and Wimbledon to follow.

Siniakova Opens Grass with Easy Win

It took Siniakova an hour and 34 minutes alright, but she came through in straight sets in the end against Varvara Gracheva to seal her second round berth.

Siniakova won 6-3, 6-2 in a match that saw a whopping 22 break-points but what would please her in what was her first match on grass for the season is she dropped her serve just once.

That came in reply to her early break in the first set but Siniakova broke right back in the fifth game and from there on it was just one-way traffic for the 76th-ranked player.

Siniakova had earlier begun her season with some solid struggles in hard court competitions, but came back well on clay with a 7-3 record in main draws. This included a semifinal appearance in Parma and a third round run at French Open.

Can she now make it a second successive win on her least favourite surface?

Pegula v Siniakova Prediction and Tip

Pegula is strangely at reasonably priced 4/9 to win this and unless something drastically goes wrong we can be looking at a straight-set win.
