Jannik Sinner v Marton Fucsovics Head to Head

Sinner and Fucsovics are currently tied at 1-1 in their head-to-head. Fucsovics’ winning came in a Grand Slam (Australian Open 2020), but Sinner managed to level the series in the first round of the Sofia Open at the tail end of last year.

Sinner Set For Wimbledon Debut

Despite his limited grass-court experience, Jannik Sinner is still a force to be reckoned with on the slick, pristine grass of Wimbledon.

Sinner is set to make his Wimbledon main draw bout in a very intriguing clash against the unseeded Hungarian Marton Fucsovics of Hungary.

The Italian lost to fellow teenager Jack Draper of Great Britain in two tiebreak sets at Queen’s Club less than two weeks ago in his only tuneup participation prior to the main event at SW19.

The 19-year-old landed in the first quarter of the draw, pitting his name in the Novak Djokovic half. It is probable the pair might square off in the quarterfinal, but there is a slew of big-hitters that Sinner will need to nullify with his own power to reach that stage.

Regardless of the outcome in his opening match, this is Sinner’s career-best season in which he has posted 24-12 record, including a title win at the Great Ocean Road Open earlier this year.

Fucsovics Looks to Challenge on Grass

Marton Fucsovics’ struggles on grass, and in particular at Wimbledon have been well documented. Fucsovics had tried to enter the Wimbledon main draw since 2011 as a qualifier but failed in five attempts.

But in 2017 he won the Ilkey Challenger, the only professional grass tournament he has won on the surface thus far, and earned a wild card into the main draw of the Championships for the first time. Although he lost in the opening round, he used the opportunity as a springboard for more success.

The Hungarian earned a top 100 ranking shortly after that, and he has never left ever since. In 2019, he finally managed to record his solitary win at the Championships, beating Denis Novak in four sets.

Fucsovics started the 2021 season impressively: making the third round of the Australian Open and the final of Rotterdam. But he failed to translate that form on clay, where he struggled to advance past the second round in each of the five tournaments he played.

His preparations for Wimbledon were not ideal, as he lost in the first round of Stuttgart and the second round of Eastbourne – the latter to a player ranked nearly 30 spots below him in the rankings.

Sinner v Fucsovics Prediction and Tip

Neither player has a particularly encouraging record on the surface, but you could make a case for Sinner being a relatively new kid on the block. Fucsovics has already beaten the Italian teenager in a Grand Slam, and still remains a wily competitor on any surface. Expect this to go the distance.
