Nao Hibino v Aliaksandra Sasnovich Head to Head

This will be their third meeting on the WTA Tour with Hibino leading 1-0. Their last match was to take place in the 2015 Tashkent Open but Sansovich withdrew from that game, giving the Japanese a walkover into the next round.

Sasnovich Benefits from Williams’ Injury

World No. 100 Aliaksandra Sasnovich was handed a daunting first-round fixture here in Wimbledon against the former top-ranked player Serena Williams. While she started well, her American adversary picked up an injury a few games in. Consequently, Williams was forced to retire at 3-3 in the first set, thus allowing the Belarusian to breeze into the second round.

Sasnovich’s season so far has been mired in mediocrity, comprising plenty of early-round exits in WTA events. Her best performance of the season came in the Serbia Ladies Open where she was a quarterfinalist. In every other tournament, the 27-year-old couldn’t quite make it past the second round.

Her track record in Wimbledon, however, shows some promise. It is here at SW19 that she has delivered her best Grand Slam performance by reaching the fourth round in the 2018 edition (beating Petra Kvitova in the opener).

If it helps, Sasnovich is set to face an opponent who is out of sorts, just like her. She will more than fancy her chances of reaching the third round.

Hibino Outlasts Pera

Nao Hibino defeated Bernarda Pera in her first-round bout with 6-1, 5-7, 6-3, in two hours and five minutes. While she managed to dole out just nine winners in contrast to Pera’s 23, what got her through was the American’s high count of unforced errors (62 v 22).

But a win is a win and with this victory over Pera, Hibino has delivered her best performance in Wimbledon by making it to round two.

She arrived for the tournament with a win-loss tally of 6-16, with her last victory coming in the first round of the French Open. Except for WTA Charleston where the 26-year-old managed to reach the quarterfinal, she too has lost a majority of her matches this season right in the early rounds.

Before Wimbledon, she played in the Bett1Open in Berlin where she fell in the first qualifying round to Priscilla Hon.

Sasnovich v Hibino Prediction and Tip

Hibino, as World No. 85, is ranked higher than Sasnovich but if recent form is any indicator, that may not be of much help here. Both players are sailing in similar boats on very similar tides, making this an affair that can go either way.

But if we are to pick a favourite, it would have to be the Belarusian on account of her superior results at the SW19.
