Swiatek Continues Her March

After having demolished Su-wei Hsieh in the first round of the competition earlier this week, Swiatek managed to continue from where she had left off in the opener.

Swiatek crushed Vera Zvonareva in straight sets, and it didn’t require her too much more than hour to register that win and march into the third round.

Four aces and 16 winners helped Swiatek’s cause obviously but what also went a long way in helping her clinch this one-sided win. Swiatek broke her opponent twice apiece in each of the two sets to ensure was no fightback chances from her opponent,

The big difference between the two players came in the number of points they won on their own first serve – Swiatek had 31 to Zvonaeva’s 22. Same went with the number of points Swiatek won on return – 23 to Zvonaeva’s 17.

Can the Polish player now make it three in three?

Begu Blows away Martic

Not that Petra Martic has been doing too well in recent times but she sure was the favourite starting out against Begu but it was the Romanian who came through in a thriller of a contest.

Begu won 7-5, 6-7 (7), 6-3 in her second round match that lasted two hours and 37 minutes to emulate her previous Wimbledon best. The challenge for Begu now is to overcome a top 10 player, and an in-form one at that, to make it to the round of 16, something she has done at both, Australian Open and French Open but never at Wimbledon.

It was Begu’s high first serve percentage of 79% that helped her no end but her opponent looked to have compensated for that by winning a whopping 19 second serve points to Begu’s 10.

Fortunately for Begu she made just 25 unforced errors while Martic made 21 in just the second set and 44 overall to allow the Romanian player to overcome her much more fancied opponent.

With Swiatek still vulnerable on grass, can Begu take advantage of that?
