Raducanu Enjoying a Dream Grand Slam Debut

Emma Raducanu, playing in just the second WTA tournament of her fresh career, will be on cloud nine at the moment. Starting in Wimbledon as a wildcard, she first played the Russian qualifier Vitalia Diatchenko and beat her 7-6(4), 6-0.

She carried her fine form in the next round too, this time by defeating the Czech Marketa Vondrousova 6-2, 6-4 in a little over an hour in what was a pretty impressive performance by the youngster. With this, she is set to crack the top 250 in the WTA Singles Rankings.

This is definitely remarkable seeing that Raducanu made her WTA Tour debut only earlier this month in Nottingham, where she fell to Harriet Dart in round one. Up until then, she spent her time largely playing in low-tier events to get build some early experience.

Cirstea Stuns Azarenka

Cirstea, in line with the season she is having so far, is heading in this match after defeating the #12 seed Victoria Azarenka 7-6(5), 3-6, 6-4. The 31-year-old put up a resilient performance where she evenly matched Azarenka’s skills – just enough to beat her.

Following a pretty decent run in the clay swing (a title run in Istanbul and the runner-up feat in Strasbourg), it is certainly a positive sign to see Cirstea attempt to replicate something similar on grass courts too. If she does manage to beat Raducanu – which, given her experience, should not be that difficult, she will have delivered her best run in Wimbledon yet.

So far in the season, Cirstea has beaten a few big names like Belinda Bencic, Petra Kvitova, Johanna Konta, Daria Kasatkina, and most recently, Azarenka.

Cirstea v Raducanu Prediction and Tip

The odds of Raducanu winning here are quite slim but if there was a time to bet on the underdog, now would be it. There have been instances where novice youngsters have stunned big guns to emerge as the dark horses. Gauff has done it like many others and Raducanu may just follow suit.

But at least on paper, Cirstea will start this game as the favourite.
