Madison Keys v Viktorija Golubic Head to Head

Keys and Golubic are tied at 1-1 in their head-to-head, with both matches ending in straight-set victories for either of them.

Keys Keeps Mertens At Bay

After three Americans bowed out on Friday, Madison Keys is still alive and kicking in the bottom half of the women’s singles draw after holding off the number 13 seed Elise Mertens. That result in the grand scheme of things meant that Keys now has a hat-trick of wins against the Belgian at the Majors.

Keys won 7-5 6-3, in an hour and 15 minutes to reach the fourth round of Wimbledon for the first time since 2016. Her power-packed game and fluid groundstrokes proved too much to handle even for a player of Mertens’ caliber.

A tight opening set came to a halt in the 12th game, when Mertens was broken while serving to stay in it. Keys produced a series of breathtaking returns and oil painting winners to take it 7-5. And in the second set, the versatile Belgian failed to build on an early break as she coughed up numerous double faults to hand back the initiative.

The Florida native increased her intensity and she never looked in danger again to book her spot in the fourth round.

Keys fired 29 winners to her opponent’s nine and won an impressive 73% of first-serve points. In her three matches at SW19, the American’s serve has been a potent weapon. She has been broken just three times and will have her eyes firmly on a place in the quarterfinals.

Golubic Routs Brengle

It was projected to be Veronika Kudermetova’s quarter, but since Viktorija Golubic upset the Russian number 29 seed, she has now taken over that itinerary.

The one-handed Swiss had re-entered the world’s top 100 after a series of eye-catching performances in 2021 – highlighted by reaching back-to-back tour-level finals in March (Lyon and Monterrey), as well as winning an ITF title in Saint-Malo.

Many fans have been shocked to see the former World No. 51’s name in the second week of a Grand Slam considering that she has been plying her trade on the ITF circuit in recent years. But Golubic’s form and results this season (and of importance in the build up to Wimbledon) have been excellent by her standards.

Golubic stunned countrywoman Belinda Bencic in Eastbourne just a few days before she made her first-round appearance at Wimbledon. And it seems she has carried that momentum to SW19, where she has now reached the fourth round for the first time.

Can she pull off another upset against the power-hitting Madison Keys?

Keys v Golubic Prediction and Tip

Keys’ brute power can send shivers to her opponents. She is a nightmare when her power-packed forehand is firing on all cylinders. Golubic, for her part, doesn’t quite match up in the power department, but she can bring intensity and has the ability to produce deep returns and conjure up sharp angles behind that one-handed backhand. Expect this to be a real test for the American.
