Astra Sharma v Ysaline Bonaventure Head to Head
This will be a first meeting between the 25-year-old Australian and the 26-year-old Belgian.

It has been an up and down year for Australia’s Astra Sharma, who won her maiden title at the WTA 250 in Charleston in April.
A runner-up at the Copa Colsanitas in 2019, Sharma didn’t have a great start to the year, falling in the first rounds at the Gippsland Trophy and the Australian Open and failing to qualify for Adelaide. She, however, hit form in Guadalajara, qualifying for the main draw and then going on to reach the quarterfinals by defeating Leylah Fernandez on the way, before falling to Sara Sorribes Tormo.
Sharma then lost in the first qualifying round in Miami and the first round in Bogota before embarking on a successful Charleston campaign. The Australian beat Yafan Wang and Madison Brengle in the first two rounds respectively, before defeating Linda Fruhvirtova in the quarterfinals, Maria Camila Osorio Serrano in the semifinals and upsetting Ons Jabeur in the final.
After her glorious win in Charleston, Sharma lost to Jabeur in the second round at Roland Garros and made first round exits from Birmingham and Wimbledon, where she was a lucky loser.
In Hamburg, the 25-year-old right-hander will be looking to return to the levels that saw her succeed in Charleston.

Bonaventure In Woeful Touch
Facing Sharma in the first round will be Belgium’s Ysaline Bonaventure, who is 3-10 from all matches across levels this year.
The three wins for the World No. 128 came against Natalija Kostic and Antonia Lottner in the first two rounds of the Australian Open qualifiers and against Allie Kiick in the first qualifying round at Wimbledon.
The 26-year-old left-hander is an 11-time winner and 10-time runner-up at the ITF Circuit. She won her only Grand Slam match at the U.S. Open last year, beating China’s Zhang Shuai.
The Belgian, who has a career-high ranking of 109, has won two doubles titles at the WTA Tour. She reached the third round at Indian Wells, defeating Donna Vekic in the second round, but fell to Karolina Pliskova.
Sharma v Bonaventure Prediction and Tip
Sharma has won a lot of matches this season, and against tough opponents. She is a former top 100 player and will be looking to break back into the top 100. Expect her to begin her Hamburg challenge with a straight sets win over the Belgian.
