Mona Barthel v Kristina Kucova Head to Head
The pair have never met before. This will be the first match between the 30 year old German, and the Slovak, who is a year older.

Barthel was once ranked as high as 23 in the world, eight years ago when she won the second of her four senior career titles at the Premier Open GDF Suez event in France.
She went on to win the Swedish Open the following year, but her last victory at the Prague Open four years ago, presaged a long and steady drift down the world rankings, with injuries playing their part in her decline, although she has had more recent success in doubles events.
Her best result in 2021 came back in February when she reached the second round of the Australian Open, before losing to the Czech Karolina Muchova,
Since then, she las largely failed to qualify to the main draws of any senior WTA tournament, although, when she has gained direct entry to tournaments, she has lost in the first round.
Her last appearance was at Wimbledon, where she suffered a first round defeat in three steps to Lin Zhu of China, the world 99.

Kucova Comes in as a Lucky Loser
Kucova was actually beaten in the qualifying competition by Mandy Minella of Luxembourg, losing to her in straight sets on Tuesday. She had earlier beaten the local woman Stephanie Wagner in three sets on Monday,
But she gets to take her place in the main draw in Hamburg as a lucky loser after the world number 247 Minella was forced to withdraw because of injury.
Asa junior, Kucova was tipped for the very top, after winning the girls’ singles title at the US Open in 2007. However, that early promise has never been fully fulfilled, and although she won the Prague Open on the Challenger circuit on clay last September, she has never been ranked higher than 71, and that was almost five years ago.
This will be her first appearance in the main draw of a senior WTA event this year, and she failed to qualify for any of the three Grand Slam events played so far this year – the Australian and French Opens, and Wimbledon.
Barthel v Kucova Prediction and Tip
Although Kucova is the higher ranked, Barthel was a top 30 player at her peak, has enjoyed success on the senior tour, and is playing in home conditions. Taking all those factors into account, she will start the clear favourite.
