Richard Gasquet v Marco Cecchinato Head to Head
The only previous meeting between these two players came earlier this year in Dubai and Gasquet won that one in straight sets.

Gasquet has played in 20 main draw matches on the ATP tour this season and won 11 of them. And having never made it beyond winning two successive matches in a tournament this season, it gives a feeling of Gasquet been consistent but not good enough to go deep.
What’s interesting to see is that right through his career, Gasquet has done equally well on hard and clay court, at least statistically, despite having won just three of his titles on red dirt. He holds a win-loss ratio of 0.62 on clay, which is exactly what he has on hard court surfaces.
And Gasquet comes into this tournament on the back of a second round loss at Wimbledon to Roger Federer. He had earlier made the quarterfinals at two of the clay competitions he had featured in – at Parma and Lyon – and later made the second round at French Open where he lost to Rafael Nadal.
Can he now begin this with a win against a player who does well only on clay?

Cecchinato Hoping to Use Clay Credentials
We had spoken of how Gasquet has no particular fondness for either clay or hard court. In Cecchinato we have a player who revels on clay, by his own standards, but really struggles elsewhere.
Cecchinato has an under-par win-loss ratio of 0.18 on hard courts as compared to 0.47 on clay, and even this season, if one includes his qualifying performances, the Italian has a 20-12 win-loss record.
A second round appearance on the clays of Geneva was followed by his best performance of the season when Cecchinato made it to the final at Parma, before he stormed into the third round at French Open.
A break for Wimbledon where he failed to win a set was all it took for Cecchinato to return to clay. Gasquet, however, might not be the easiest opponent he faces given his experience.
