Ana Bogdan v Kateryna Kozlova Head to Head

In their one and only meeting on the WTA singles circuit, Bogdan emerged as the winner with 7-6(4), 6-0, in the final qualifying round of the 2016 Mallorca Open.

Bogdan Outlasts Lepchenko

Arriving in Budapest with a win-loss tally of 9-10, World No. 98 Ana Bogdan began her campaign in the Hungarian Open with a 6-4, 7-5 win over Varavara Lepchenko.

Despite being a straight-set affair, the Romanian needed two and a half hours to beat her experienced American adversary with the final set alone lasting 90 minutes.

If Bogdan manages to overcome Kozlova in the second round, it would only be the third time this season where she would have reached this far WTA Tournament. Coincidentally, the two preceding runs have come in clay tournaments – the Istanbul Cup (beating Barbora Krejcikova in round two) and the French Open (second round walkover against Naomi Osaka).

Still in pursuit of her first singles title, Bogdan’s season so far has been largely uneventful and mundane comprising a litany of early-round defeats.

Kozlova Battles Past Haas

World No. 154 Kateryna Kozlova also found herself in a tedious first-round match in Budapest. Facing the Austrian Barbara Haas, Kozlova needed a little over two hours to win the match 7-6(9), 6-3.

This is the second time in 10 days that the 27-year-old Ukrainian has reached the second round in a WTA clay event. Last week, she featured in the Challenger tournament in Bastad where she fell to Mayar Sherif at this stage in straight sets.

Having started her season only in April in the Istanbul Cup, the spell so far hasn’t been that great for Kozlova. Her best run came in the Viking Open where, as a qualifier, she reached the round of 16 before succumbing to Johanna Konta. That performance couldn’t quite translate into consistency as Kozlova seeks to find some solid footing.

Bogdan v Kozlova Prediction and Tip

Bogdan will start as the favourite here and should be able to reach the quarterfinal with ease.
