Collins Jogs Past Jani

After an easy first round win, Collins continued with her merry ways as she registered a straight set second round win to seal her fifth tournament where she made it successive victories.

Collins defeated Reka Jani 7-5, 6-0 in an hour and 27 minutes to enter the quarterfinals after having had no trouble in getting past Martina Di Giuseppe in her opener.

The first set did prove to be bit of a thorn in Collins’ flesh, as a fluctuating battle saw neither player able to take control of the set till very late. Collins led by a break, then was broken twice in a row only to break back and level it at 4-4.

Jani broke again to serve for the set at 5-4 but it was at this point that her American opponent took total control. In what was a huge turnaround, Collins broke her opponent five times in a row to complete the victory.

Can she now make it to her second tournament semifinal of the season after the Phillip Island Trophy?

Ormaechea Registers Easy Win

Having made it to the main draw of this tournament as a qualifier, Ormaechea has now made it four wins in a row including two qualifying rounds. And each time she has won in straight sets.

Ormaechea, who had gotten past Viktoriya Tomova in the opening round 6-2, 6-3, sent Ivana Jorovic out 6-1, 7-6 (6) to set up a quarterfinal meeting with the American.

The first set was a cakewalk as Ormaechea ran away with two breaks of serves, and looked to be cruising to the win when she broke again in the fifth game of the second set. It was here Tomova broke back to level things out, but Ormaechea fought to then save four set-points in the 10th game and four more in the tie-breaker to seal the deal.

She will now have a big task on her hands as she takes on Collins, who has looked charged up after her endometriosis surgery.
