Mikael Ymer v Alex Molcan Head to Head

The pair have never played each other before. This will be the first match between the 22-year old Swede, and the Slovak, who a year older.

The younger of the two brothers that play professional tennis, Ymer has won one senior doubles title, the Stockholm Open in 2016 with  older sibling Elias.

Beaten in the final of the Wimbledon boys’ singles in 2015, he has gone on to appear in nine finals on the junior tours, winning six of them in a mixture of clay and hard court events.

Six weeks ago, at the French Open, he had the biggest win of his professional career to date, when he beat the world number 15 Gael Monfils to make the third round of the French Open.

That matched his performance at the Australian Open earlier this year, where he also reached the third round.

Since Roland Garros, he qualified for Eastbourne but was knocked out in the first round and then, at Wimbledon, after he defeated the veteran Jo-Wilfred Tsonga in five sets, he lost to Felix Auger Aliassime (the second seed in Gstaad),

Last week he suffered the disappointment of losing in the first round of his home event in Bastad, beaten in three sets by the Finn, Emil Ruusuvouri.

Belgrade Open Finalist Molcan Hoping to Regain Form

Molcan was runner-up in the Australian boys’ doubles with partner Hubert Hurkcsz in 2016.

However, he first came to the attention of the wider public earlier this year, when he came through qualifying in Belgrade and made it all the way to the final, beating Federico Delbonis along the way, before eventually losing to Novak Djokovic.

He then followed that up by reaching the final of a Challenger event in Prostejov, the Czech republic, where he lost to Federico Coria of Argentina, the world 77, in straight sets.

Molcan failed to qualify for Wimbledon, but he did get through the qualifying competition last week to make the main draw in Hamburg last week. There he beat Gianluca Mager of Italy, the world number 73, before losing to the number five seed, Dusan Lajovic.

Both his matches went in Hamburg went to three sets.

Although Ymer is the higher ranked player, Molcan is the man in form in recent months, especially on clay, and he is tipped to make the second round.
