Zidansek in her Third WTA Final

23-year-old Tamara Zidansek is set to compete in her third singles final on the tour and her second one of the 2021 season. Her last final was the Copa Colsanitas in Bogota where she fell to Maria Camila Serrano in three sets.

Since then, the Slovakian has reached the second round in the Madrid Open and more impressively, the semifinal in the French Open. Beating the likes of Bianca Andreescu, Sorana Cirstea, and Paula Badosa, Zidansek made a significant leap in the rankings on the back of her best Grand Slam run yet.

The current World No. 50 started her campaign in Lausanne as the top seed and defeated Marina Melnikova, Mandy Minella, Lucia Bronzetti, and Maryna Zanevska to reach the final. Needless to say, she has looked comfortable throughout the tournament.

It is worth mentioning that Zidansek has built a formidable legacy on clay, comprising three singles finals, two Challenger trophies, and 18 ITF finals (14 titles, 4 runner-up finishes). Combined with her recent French Open run, it becomes more evident why she is starting as the heavy favourite.

Burel in her Maiden Final

20-year-old Clara Burel has made it to her first WTA final on the circuit here in Lausanne. Despite starting in a fairly tricky bracket, Burel did well to navigate it by beating the likes of Susan Bandecchi and Kamilla Rakhimova in the opening rounds.

In the quarterfinal, she beat the second seed, Fiona Ferro, 7-5, 6-2 while in the semis, she dispatched the veteran Caroline Garcia 5-7, 6-2, 6-2.

At the start of the season, Burel was ranking in the mid 200s. Now, she is ranked #125 which alone speaks scores about her abilities and by the looks of it, she is set to make another big leap.

Over the course of the year, the youngster has picked up three ITF trophies – one winner and two runner-ups, along with reaching the second round in Wimbledon. Moreover, Burel also reached the final in Junior Australian Open and US Open in 2018.

She may lack the experience but makes up for it with some promising talent and skill.

Zidansek v Burel Prediction and Tip

This will be an interesting battle, one where Zidansek has the upper hand. However, Burel is looking confident and will fancy her chances of winning the title.
