Diatchenko has not had the best of seasons, having not won a single match in the main draw of any of the tournaments she’s played in – either on the ITF circuit or WTA.
And speaking of clay on which this tournament is being played, the last time Diatchenko won a match on it, was more than six years ago. It was a first round win at French Open that season following which she fell in the second round.
This year alone, Diatchenko has made three attempts on clay, losing in the first round of two ITF tournaments in Spain and then losing in her French Open qualifier as well.
Last week she participated in the Prague Open and fell to a three-set loss to Nina Stojanovic having earlier qualified for Wimbledon but not won a round there either.
This could be a decent chance for the Russian because her opponent has never been ranked higher than 186th on the WTA Rankings.

Grabher’s a Clay Court Specialist
She might be ranked outside the top 200 but when it comes to clay, Grabher’s record is something to behold. She has won eight ITF titles, all of which have come on this surface including one earlier this season Bellinzona.
What’s interesting to note is in more recent times, Grabher has struggled to make it count even on clay.
Like at Budapest last week she qualified for the main draw but fell in the first round and before that in Amstelveen, Grabher had failed to make it past the first round. At French Open Grabher did not even make the main draw while at Parma, there was a first round loss in the qualifiers.
Which is why while Grabher should have been a very heavy favourite for this one, her recent clay form might be a concern.
Diatchenko v Grabher Prediction and Tip
This could be a tough one to call because of the aforementioned reasons but Grabher could still edge her opponent in this one. Three-setter expected.
