Wolf Opens 2021 Campaign

A four-time Challenger title winner, Wolf hasn’t played a single match this entire season and that would have come as a surprise to most. Especially given the way Wolf’s last year went.

Having turned pro in 2019, Wolf won a wildcard for the US Open last year and he had a solid run there. Defeating Guido Pella and Roberto Carballés Baena in the first two rounds it took Daniil Medvedev to knock him out in the third.

Add that to the on-court swagger associated with him, Wolf belongs to a confident breed of youngsters who, when they get going, have the ability to take down the best. And belonging to a family of sportspersons, all eyes will be on Wolf as he returns to court after missing nearly seven months of action.

While rustiness will be an obvious issue, the big question is whether Wolf has become fully fit having had to take a break because of an injury he sustained last November.

Nakashima Looking to Build on His Challenger Success

Nakashima hasn’t played in a lot of top-level main draw matches, having won three of the seven that he’s participated in. More importantly, it’s his talent and success at two of the Challenger competitions he participated in that’s expected to help.

This season, Nakashima has already won one title on the Challenger level while reaching the semifinal at another.

However, it’s the step-up that has been difficult to take for the American. So far that is.

He has already played in eight tournaments at a notch above the Challengers this year and won no main draw matches. In fact, at six of those eight, Nakashima has failed to qualify for the main draw, making this a rather crucial encounter for the world number 133.

Because for one, he will be gunning for a rare win but more vitally against a player who hasn’t played any form of competitive tennis for months. Surely he shouldn’t have too many worries here?

Wolf v Nakashima Prediction and Tip

Nakashima has been given a huge edge here with bookmakers offering a mere 1/4 for his win which we think is far too short against a player who has shown tremendous potential. Expect Wolf to push Nakashima for a bit.
