Shapovalov Looking to Continue Strong Run From Wimbledon

Denis Shapovalov has had an overall good season across the hard court, clay and grass season.

He looked good at the ATP Cup Down Under, made the semi-finals on the hard courts in Dubai, pushed Rafa Nadal to have match point in Rome on clay, and was a finalist on the Geneva clay before pulling out of the French Open with shoulder issues.

The grass swing went well for Shapovalov as he was a quarterfinalist in Stuttgart and a semifinalist at Queen’s,  before having a good run at Wimbledon before losing a hard-fought semifinal against world number one and eventual champion Novak Djokovic.

Back at number ten in the world, and preparing himself for the US Open series ahead, the top seed here has pulled out of the Tokyo Olympics next week and will look to get confidence and form here ahead of the North American tour.

Kopriva Hoping To Make a Match Against Shapovalov

Czech Vit Kopriva is ranked number 249, but has improved in rankings from being outside the top 600 a year and a half ago.  Kopriva, who has five Futures titles under his belt, won two rounds of qualifiers to make it to the main draw here, beating Maximilian Marterer and Enzo Couacaud.

Earlier this season, Kopriva had made it to the semifinal at Braunschweig and Rome while also winning himself a quarterfinal berth in Prague on the Challenger Tour. His best result this season, however, came on the ATP circuit when he not only qualified for the main draw of the Marbella Open but also reached the second round by defeating Lukas Rosol.

The Czech had a convincing opening round victory here against Johan Nikles of Switzerland dropping only three games.

Denis Shapovalov v Vit Kopriva Prediction and Tip

In a somewhat mismatched opener for Shapovalov, the Canadian can be expected to start as a strong favorite.  Kopriva has done well on the Futures and Challengers Tour, but facing a top ten on the main ATP tour is not something he maybe quite ready for. Expect the Canadian to win in straight sets comfortably.

Tip: Shapovalov to win in straight sets: 2/5 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
