Katarina Zavatska v Olga Danilovic Head to Head

Zavatska, who last month qualified for the French Open for the second time in her career, had lost her previous three matches on the eve of this tournament.

However, she was able to dispose of the challenge of the Australian Lizette Cabrera, with comparative ease on Tuesday in their first round match.

She begam strongly, breaking Cabrera in the opening game of the match. The Australian hit back with a break of her own but parity was brief as she lost her serve again next game. A further break tightened Zavatska’s hold on the set.

The pattern was repeated in the second set as the pair swapped breaks, only for Cabrera to go a break down again. The Australian served to stay in the match, but Zavatska earned herself a match point and duly converted it.

Danilovic Comes from Behind to Beat Teenager

Danilovic showed glimpses of the form that earned her a senior WTA title, the Moscow River Cup in 2018. When still a teenager, by reaching the quarter-final in Budapest last week.

However, the 20-year old Serb had to come from behind to beat the Russian Kamilia Rakhimova in their first-round encounter on Tuesday.

The match began with both women dropping their serve, before Danilovic dropped hers twice more in succession. She recovered one of them back, but was unable to prevent the teenage Russian from taking the first set.

Rakhimova was the first to drop her serve in the second set and, although she was briefly on level terms, two more breaks enabled Danilovic to take it into a third set.

Again, there was a flurry of dropped serves in the middle of the set from which Danilovic emerged a break up. One further break sealed the win for her.
