Rybakina Slowly Returning to Her Best

Between July 2019 and February 2020, Rybakina had a run of six tournament finals, two of which resulted in a title win. Since the pandemic break, however, Rybakina has made it to just one more final, losing to Elina Svitolina in Strasbourg.

She followed that up with one win from three matches to end the season and followed it up with one quarterfinal appearance in the first eight tournaments in 2021. The form looked to have gone missing.

It was only recently at French Open that Rybakina finally got going against, reaching the quarterfinal there which included a win against Serena Williams. A semifinal at Eastbourne and fourth round at Wimbledon would all come together soon after, thereby being a relief and pushing her up to 20th in the world.

Rybakina now enters the Olympics with a realistic chance of going deep into the tournament, which will be played on a surface on which she has made five WTA finals.

Stosur’s Won Two Matches Since 2020

Not only has Stosur not played in a lot of tennis since the start of 2020, she has also won just two matches in that period.

The first of those wins came in Brisbane last year and the second at Australian Open this. There have been 11 defeats punctuating that record, and that’s only meant one thing – her confidence and ranking have gone southward.

There’s not a lot going for Stosur, with her doubles record reading a miserable 0-7 this season too.

Having reached the quarterfinal of the 2012 Olympics in London, Stosur would dearly love to recapture some of that past glory, and if not a win, try and push her opponent to the fullest. Unfortunately for her, Stosur’s record against half decent players suggests otherwise.

Rybakina v Stosur Prediction and Tip

No surprises who is a favourite here but are we looking at Rybakina being too short at 1/12. Can Stosur push Rybakina into, say, a tie-breaker given this is a nation v nation contest that could incite a sense of pride too?
