In what has truly been a sensational performance by Switzerland’s Belinda Bencic in the Olympics Games 2020, she has established herself as a prime contender for the gold in women’s singles in Tokyo.

In her wake, she has left behind a series of impressive results, starting with straight-set wins over Jessica Pegula and Misaki Doi. In the pre-quarters, she met the formidable Czech Barbora Krejcikova and dispatched her 1-6, 6-2, 6-3, to reach the next round.

That win over Krejcikova effectively set the tone for the rest of her campaign. On Wednesday, the 24-year-old played the reigning French Open runner-up Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova and beat her 6-0, 3-6, 6-3 to post her best results in Olympics so far.

As a former World No. 4, Bencic boasts of an impressive pedigree comprising Canadian Open and Dubai Championships titles. She also reached the semifinal in the 2019 US Open while this year, she was the runner-up in the Adelaide International and the German Open.

Of course, while delivering these results, she has also posted a litany of wins over several top-10 players on the WTA Tour.

Rybakina Stuns Muguruza

22-year-old Elena Rybakina is having herself the Olympics of a lifetime. After successfully beating the likes of Samantha Stosur, Rebecca Peterson, and Donna Vekic – all in straight sets, she defeated former World No. 1 Garbine Muguruza in the quarters with 7-5, 6-1.

That win marks her biggest victory to date – with that, she is also now 10-2 in the last three tournaments, including her ongoing campaign in Tokyo.

Rybakina’s start to the season may have been a bit uneventful but with time, she has only gotten better on the tour. Following a quarterfinal run in WTA Abu Dhabi, her next big breakthrough came in the French Open where she reached the same round, after beating the mighty Serena Williams en route.

In grass swing, her best results include a semifinal run in Eastbourne and a fourth-round appearance in Wimbledon.

The Kazakh rose to prominence last season when she made it to five singles finals on the tour, including the ones in Premier events of the St. Petersburg Trophy and Dubai Championships.

Bencic v Rybakina Prediction and Tip

This is a game that can very well go either way. Both players are coming off a great season and a terrific run in Tokyo.
