Casper Rudd v Mikael Ymer Head to Head

Though representing countries that call themselves Nordic neighbors, Ruud and Ymer have never been involved in a head-to-head clash till date. Tennis fans sh0uld be in for a fascinating duel as the two accomplished baseliners with heavy groundstrokes go against each other.

Ruud Fights Past Vilella Martinez

Opening his Kitzbuhel campaign in the fourth round, Ruud faced a stiff battle against 167th-ranked Spaniard Mario Vilella Martinez.

Though the match seemed to be veering on expected lines with the Norwegian taking the opening set by a comfortable 7-5 margin, the 26-year-old Spaniard stormed back into contention after breaking back Ruud and winning the second by a similar margin.

Though Vilella Martinez fired eight aces to Ruud’s four, the Spaniard couldn’t seize the key moments in the decider as he conceded a break of serve and eventually fell to a 5-7, 7-5, 4-6 defeat.

Ruud, who has had a phenomenal season on clay this year, following up on his Geneva Open title with two more championships trophies at the Swedish Open and Swiss Open, is eyeing his fourth in the snowy heights of Austria.

The 22-year-old swept past Argentine Federico Coria to lift the Swedish Open trophy and followed up with a similar lopsided win over Frenchman Hugo Gaston in the Swiss Open final, raising his profile in men’s tennis and making himself the one to beat on clay.

While the current World No. 14 is keen on continuing with his dream run on red dirt, Ruud is likely to have another tough outing against Ymer.

Ymer Routs Erler in Round Two

Falling in the third round at the Swedish Open, his home event, Ymer travelled a fair distance on the redemption road at the Swiss Open, reaching the quarter-final before falling to little-known Vit Kopriva of the Czech Republic.

Coming into Kitzbuhel with a semblance of form behind him, the 22-year-old opened his campaign with a facile win over Uruguayan Pablo Cuevas.

Running into unheralded Austrian Alexander Erler in the next round, Ymer made short work of his opponent, cruising past him in straight sets.

However, he faces his real test in the last-eight as he comes up against the in-form Norwegian.

The Swede, who took down veteran Gael Monfils in the French Open second round and Jo Wilfried Tsonga in his opening clash at this year’s Wimbledon Championships, has the game to rattle the big names in the men’s game and could spring a surprise on Ruud in their first-ever head-to-head battle.

Ruud v Ymer Prediction and Tip

Current form makes Ruud an overwhelming favorite against Ymer. However, the Swede is known to punch above his weight against the big names and will certainly not roll over and die against his cross-border rival.

Also, the fact that the pair have not played each other before would make for an even contest.
