Djokovic Relentless Against Nishikori

World number one Novak Djokovic continued his bid for greater achievements in the sport, as he eyes his first Olympic gold to keep hopes of a Golden Calendar Slam alive.

Having won the Australian and French Opens as well as Wimbledon this year, the Serb continues to strive to become the first male in the sport to win all majors and the Olympic gold in the same calendar year, a feat only accomplished by Steffi Graf on the WTA tour thus far.

The Serb continued his clinical run this week in the quarter-finals against Japan’s Kei Nishikori. Having dropped between four and seven games in each of the first three rounds, Djokovic took it to another level against an opponent he had won his last 14 matches against.

Djokovic started strong breaking Nishikori early and then ensured there was no looking back or any deterrent to the momentum. The Japanese former world number four, scarred by the many losses to the Serb had no response on serve or on the return and not before too long it was a 6-2, 6-0 win for the top seed.

Putting himself in the medal round and incidentally in the mixed doubles as well, Djokovic looks focused and ready to add more laurels to an already very full closet.

In-Form Zverev Continues Strong Week

Alexander Zverev moved into the final four at the Olympics with a fourth straight sets win in the tournament. Seeded fourth and in the same half of the draw as Novak Djokovic, it has been very smooth smailing for the German.

Coming off straight set wins against Lu Yen-Hsun and Daniel Elahi dropping four games each, Zverev was pushed in the third round by Georgian Nikoloz Basilashvili. The German came out strong and did wonders to his confidence prevailing in two tight sets.

Up against Frenchman Jeremy Chardy in the final eight, it was a clinical showing by Zverev dropping only five games  as he rolled into the medal rounds, for what will be his most difficult opponent this week, i.e. Novak Djokovic.

Djokovic v Zverev Prediction and Tip

Both players have been in excellent form this week and are yet to drop a set. In effect, this maybe a final of sorts.

Zverev has shown what he is capable of, and will not go away without a fight, but the form Djokovic is in, it is impossible to pick against him. Expect the world number to move closer to the Olympic gold in three sets.
