Berankis Looking to Regain Form

He reached the third round of the French Open for the first time in his career but since then the Lithuanian has struggled to win his first round matches.

Berankis comes to Washington, having lost five main draw matches in a row. He was handed his most recent defeat by Jack Sock at the Atlanta Open last week, with the American coming back from a set down to win in three.

The World No. 86 hasn’t had a great season so far. But having returned to his preferred surface last week, he showed signs of regaining form and could make good use of the tournament in Washington to improve on his overall record of 8-12 this season.

A two-time runner-up on the tour, Berankis had a decent run on the hard courts of Melbourne, reaching the Round of 16 at Melbourne-2 and the second round of the Australian Open.

Krueger Comes Through the Qualifiers

It’s been a busy few weeks for Mitchell Krueger. The American qualified for his first ATP Tour event of the year in Newport, then won the Challenger title in Cary, NC, and now he has qualified for the main draw at the Washington Open.

Krueger defeated compatriot Andrew Fenty 6-4, 6-4 in the first qualifying round on Saturday and then fought back from a set down to beat Australia’s Max Purcell 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 in the second qualifying round on Sunday.

Ranked 174th in the world, the 27-year-old has shown his preference for the hard courts reaching four Challenger finals and five Furtures finals on the surface, winning a total of titles.

Berankis v Krueger Prediction and Tip
