Madison Keys v Shuai Zhang Head to Head

Zhang leads Keys 4-2, last defeating her in the 2020 French Open.

As for Keys’s last win over the Chinese, it came back in 2013 WTA Osaka.

Keys Seeking Reprieve at Home

Former World No. 7 Madison Keys will be hoping to deliver the kind of run that propelled her into the top 10 a few years ago. The odds are on her side, given her past performance in the North American swing.

The 26-year-old has already conquered the Silicon Valley Classic once in 2017 – the very same year, she reached the final at the US Open where she lost to Sloane Stephens. The following year, she reached the semifinal at the Flushing Meadow once again and in 2019, she ended up winning the Cincinnati Open.

Coming to her form in 2021, Keys has had an unexciting year to date – as a result, she has moved down to the #26 spot in the rankings. Following a bleak start to the season, the American found her groove in Europe with a third-round appearance in the French Open and a quarterfinal run in the Bett1Open.

It seems that she is only getting better with time as she delivered her best run of the season at Wimbledon by making it to the fourth round.

Zhang Dispatches Raducanu

Unlike Keys, who enjoyed a bye into the second round, Shuai Zhang had to work a bit to win her opening round match in San Jose. She met the Brit Emma Raducanu and defeated her 6-3, 6-2.

The 32-year-old is coming off a good run on the WTA Tour, having reached the semifinal in the Palermo Ladies Open last month. Earlier in the season, she was also the runner-up in the Nottingham Open where she lost to Johanna Konta in the final.

But apart from these two solid runs, most of Zhang’s time on the tour has gone in futile attempts to move past the opening rounds. In fact, between the Australian Open and French Open, the Chinese featured in nine different tournaments – she lost her first-round bout in eight of them.

Keys v Zhang Prediction and Tip

Keys will start as the favourite in this match and shouldn’t face that many difficulties in beating Zhang.
