Jannik Sinner v Sebastian Korda Head to Head

This will be the first meeting between the two players on the ATP Tour.

Sinner Starts Strong

Playing in his second tournament of the North American swing, 19-year-old Jannik Sinner defeated Emil Ruusuvuori of Finland 6-2, 6-4, to start his Washington Open campaign.

With this, he has already bettered his results from the Atalanta Open last week where he lost in the opener to Christopher O’Connell. However, he did move on to win the doubles title there with Reilly Opelka.

The Italian teenager has had a sensational season so far, on the back of which has landed himself in the top 20. After winning the ATP 250 title in Melbourne at the start of the season, Sinner later reached the final in the Miami Open where he fell to Hubert Hurkacz. Apart from that, he also reached the semifinal in ATP Barcelona and the fourth round in the French Open.

That said, there have been a few instances where Sinner hasn’t been able to perform well – the opening-round exits in the Madrid, Rome, Queen’s Club, Wimbledon, and Atalanta are proof of that. However, he is a formidable opponent who is bound to get better with time and experience.

Korda Boasting a Similar Pedigree

Sebastian Korda, just two years elder to Sinner, has enjoyed an impressive season himself. Currently ranked world number 45 – his best singles ranking yet – he was the runner-up in the Delray Beach Open earlier this year and later, he won his first singles title in ATP Parma.

Between these two events, Korda also reached the final in the Miami Masters where he fell to Andrey Rublev.

Just like Sinner, his year too is marked with tournaments where the American has fallen in the opening rounds. However, when we look at his wins over the likes of Kei Nishikori, Roberto Bautista Agut, and John Isner, it becomes all the more evident that he is a talented player.

Most recently, Korda featured in the Wimbledon where he fell in the fourth round to Karen Khachanov. As for his current run in Washington, he enjoyed a bye into the second round where he defeated Vasek Pospisil 7-5, 6-4.

Sinner v Korda Prediction and Tip

Sinner will start this match as the favourite on account of his superior ranking and overall form but that can be negated quite quickly, provided Korda manages to deliver as he has in the past.
