Evans Has Had a Mixed Year so Far

He began the season by winning his first career title, defeating Felix Auger Aliassime in the final of Melbourne-2, but since then it’s been a mixed bag year for the Briton.

Evans had a relatively good grass court season, winning two matches in Queen’s and two at Wimbledon, but didn’t make a convincing return to the hard court surface, falling in the first round of the Washington Open to Brandon Nakashima last week. Evans lost the first set in tie-break but was bagelled in the second by the Atlanta Open finalist.

Ranked 27th in the world, the 31-year-old will be making his second appearance at the Canadian Open, he was knocked out in the second round in Montreal in 2019.

The highlight of Evans’ 2021 season has been his run on clay, his least preferred surface, where he reached the semifinals in Monte Carlos.

It’s Been a Busy Year for Bublik

Two runner-up finishes, a semifinal and three quarterfinals, it’s been a busy year for Alexander Bublik. The Kazakh has played plenty of matches and delivered results on all surfaces, including on clay, where he generally tends to struggle, but this year, made it to the last eight in Madrid.

Bublik has played in four ATP finals over his career, including two this year on the hard courts of Antalya and Singapore, but is yet to win a title.

Overall, the big-serving 24-year-old is 26-19 this season, and 15-9 on hard courts.

The World No. 39, who lost in the first round in Tokyo to Daniil Medvedev, will be making his main draw debut in Canada.

Evans v Bublik Prediction and Tip

In 2019, Bublik won a qualifying round against Evans at the Miami Open with ease and clinched the Davis Cup rubber between the two in three. Last year, Evans won with a convincing scoreline in Adelaide. So neither has dominated the rivalry so far. Expect a close contest, with Bublik’s consistency favouring him slightly in this matchup.
