Hubert Hurkacz v Alejandro Davidovich Head to Head

Hubert Hurkacz came agonizingly close to inflict a second successive defeat over Daniil Medvedev at the Toronto Masters last week. But the Russian rallied from a set down to win 2-6 7-6 7-6 to earn sweet revenge over the Pole who had beaten him in the Round of 16 at Wimbledon.
It was cruel for Hurkacz who did not drop a single service game. But given Medvedev’s relentless aggression in which he served 23 aces and a barrage of winners (38 to be precise), he found a way to puncture the Polish man’s defenses.
Still, it was a decent return to form for Hurkacz who prior to that quarterfinal in Toronto had not lost a match in North America this season. He had won 11 completed matches spanning across Delray, Miami, and Toronto, with two titles to his name.
The 24-year-old, however, will look to keep his unbeaten streak intact in the USA where he will his third visit to the Western & Southern Open. Hurkacz hasn’t won a main draw match in his last two visits to Cincinnati, but he looks a big favorite to end that dismal run on Monday.

Davidovich Fokina Crashed By Isner
Alejandro Davidovich Fokina felt John Isner’s full fury at the Canadian Masters last week. The flamboyant Spaniard lost 6-4 6-1 in just 66 minutes.
The return of serve is not one of his greatest assets, and he was torn to shreds by Isner’s power and accurate serving. The towering American made short work of the 34th-ranked Spaniard as he hammered 19 aces en route to the semifinals.
Prior to his early exit last week, Davidovich Fokina made the third round of the Olympics where he lost to World No.1 Novak Djokovic.
The 22-year-old is currently 23-16 for the season and sits at a career-high ranking of World No. 34. He is almost certain of a seeding spot at the US Open in a fortnight’s time. Davidovich Fokina will be defending fourth-round points from last season and will be keen to add any points gained in Cincinnati.

Hurkacz will be wary of Davidovich Fokina’s talent and shotmaking. He lost the young Spaniard at the US Open last season and on the indoors of Montpellier earlier this year.
