Sabalenka Enjoying Life as World No. 3

23-year-old Aryna Sabalenka has had a terrific season so far. On the heels of some breathtaking, consistent performances, she has climbed her way to the #3 position in the rankings.

The highlights of her season include a title run in the WTA Abu Dhabi and Madrid Open, in addition to a runner-up feat in the Stuttgart Open.

In addition to these, Sabalenka has also reached the quarterfinal in Eastbourne, Miami Open, and Dubai Duty-Free Championships, and the semifinal in Wimbledon Championships (losing to Karolina Pliskova).

The 6 feet tall tennis star is certainly a formidable opponent to face on any given day. The handful of losses she has incurred in 2021 have come at the hands of players like Donna Vekic, Camila Giorgi, Cori Gauff, Madison Keys, Ash Barty, and Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova.

Last week, Sabalenka featured in the Canadian Open where she reached the semifinal after upsetting Sloane Stephens and Victoria Azarenka on the way.

Badosa Making Great Strides Herself

Paula Badosa started the season as World No. 70 and has since moved up to the 31st position in the WTA rankings. Like Sabalenka, she has built her success on the back of consistent runs on the tour.

Most notably, the 23-year-old Spaniard reached the semifinal in the WTA Lyon, Madrid Open, and Volvo Car Open where she defeated the likes of Belinda Bencic, Barbora Krejcikova, Ashleigh Barty, and Kristina Mladenovic. Shortly thereafter, Badosa clinched her maiden singles title in the Serbia Ladies Open by defeating Ana Konjuh in the final.

In the French Open and Wimbledon, she reached the quarterfinal and fourth-round respectively and delivered a similar run in the Tokyo Olympics as well.

Clearly, Badosa has got all the ingredients to become a top 10 player – it seems to be just a matter of time for her. Her last tournament was in Montreal where she incurred a shock defeat to Rebecca Marino in the second round.

Here in Cinci, she started her campaign with a three-set thriller against Petra Martic – Badosa had to fight in the final set tiebreak to win the match 4-6, 6-4, 7-6(9).

Sabalenka v Badosa Prediction and Tip

Badosa will put up a fight and is more than likely to make Sabalenka work for the win. While the Belarusian will start as the odds-on favourite, it wouldn’t be surprising if this match goes the other way.
