Andrey Rublev v Gael Monfils Head to Head

Fourth seed Andrey Rublev began his Cincinnati challenge with a tough come-from-behind win over Marin Cicli on Wednesday.
Having received a first-round bye, Rublev found himself a set down in the second round after conceding the only break of serve in the first set. The Russian began the second set strongly though, breaking Cilic on the very first game and then protected the advantage till the end before getting a second break to seal the set.
He continued his dominance in the third, racing to a 5-0 lead and then serving out the match for a 5-7, 6-3, 6-1 win in two hours.
Both players had 11 aces and five double faults in the match. Rublev won 83% first serve points and saved four of five break points. He also had six break points in the contest, and converting four of them.
The win improved the 23-year-old to 38-13 this season. The World No. 7, who won the Rotterdam title earlier this year, had struggled in the last two tournaments, having lost in the first round in Tokyo and the third round in Toronto last week, but a solid display on Wednesday would have given him a lot of confidence and he would be looking to make a deeper run in this tournament.

Monfils Ousts De Minaur for 500th Career Win
Gael Monfils continued his march at the Cincinnati Open, reaching the third round with a second straight sets win.
The Frenchman, who had defeated Dusan Lajovic 7-6 (7-0), 6-2 in the first round on Tuesday, needed an hour and 45 minutes to dispatch Australia’s Alex de Minaur 6-3, 7-5 in the second round on Wednesday.
The win made Monfils the 11th active player to notch 500 wins in his career. Richard Gasquet is the only other Frenchman who is part of the elite club.
Wednesday’s win improved Monfils to 6-11 in a season that has mostly been disappointing for the World no. 22. He had a 3-10 start, until things began to change for him in Toronto last week, where he won his first two rounds to reach the quarterfinals, before falling to John Isner.
Having won four of his last five matches, the 34-year-old will be a lot more confident and hoping to build on the success.
Rublev v Monfils Prediction and Tip
With Monfils back in form, Rublev’s path to the last eight won’t be easy, but the Russian will still be the favourite to advance. Expect a tight contest with Rublev progressing.
