Ashleigh Barty v Barbora Krejcikova Head to Head

In their one and only singles encounter, Barty emerged victorious. That match took place in the Wimbledon Championships earlier this year where the Aussie won 7-5, 6-3.

The two players have also crossed paths numerous times on the doubles circuit where Krejcikova, at least of late, has enjoyed having the upper hand. Their last doubles encounter took place in the Olympics.

Barty Knocks out Azarenka

Top seed Ashleigh Barty made little work of the defending champion Victoria Azarenka as she knocked out the Belarusian 6-0, 6-2 in an hour and 11 minutes.

The 25-year-old Australian was the superior player in that game in every regard, including winning 87.1 per cent of her first service points. She is yet to drop a set in Cincinnati and by the looks of it, she is well on her way to win yet another trophy.

Barty’s season so far comprises four singles titles – the Yarra Valley Classic, Miami Open, Stuttgart Open, and Wimbledon. She was also the runner-up in the Madrid Open where she fell in the final to Aryna Sabalenka. Nonetheless, on the back of these stunning performances and consistency on all surfaces, she has cemented herself as the world number one.

The last time Barty played in the Western & Southern Open, she made it as far as the semis. This time around, it can be a bit tricky as the mighty Krejcikova is having a phenomenal year herself.

Krejcikova Dispatches Muguruza

World No. 10 Barbora Krejcikova faced some resistance from the Spaniard Garbine Muguruza in her third-round bout but came out largely unscathed. While the second set saw Muguruza put up a good fight, the number nine seed conquered the third set and won the match 6-1, 6-7(5), 6-2.

In the previous games in Cincinnati this week, Krejcikova moved past the likes of Daria Kasatkina and Dayana Yastremska in straight sets to deliver yet another deep run in a WTA event.

Krejcikova’s singles breakthrough run in 2021 entails three singles titles –  the Strasbourg Open, French Open, and Prague Open, in addition to the runner-up feat in WTA Dubai.

On the doubles circuit, she made it to five finals with Katerina Siniakova, going the distance in four of them. The duo won the Paris Slam, Madrid Open, and the Tokyo Olympics to clinch the Gold medal there. The pair is also set to compete in the doubles semifinal in Cinci on Friday.

With this kind of impressive pedigree, it is just a matter of time before she ascends further in the rankings.

Barty v Krejcikova Prediction and Tip

This match can pretty much go either way. While Barty will start as the favourite, Krejcikova will eye yet another upset and hope to avenge her loss at SW19. Expect an entertaining game of tennis.
