Karolina Pliskova v Jil Teichmann Head to Head
This is the first meeting between the two ladies on the WTA Tour.
Business as Usual for Pliskova
World No. 4 Karolina Pliskova is all set to reach her third consecutive singles final on the WTA Tour this season. The bigger question would be whether she can finally break the jinx and win the title.
Yet to drop a set in Cincinnati, Pliskova has moved past the likes of Yulia Putintseva, Jessica Pegula, and Paula Badosa to make it this far. Against the Spaniard, Pliskova benefitted from an early result as Badosa retired in the second set.
The 29-year-old delivered a similar performance in the National Bank Open in Montreal last week where she reached the final after beating Aryna Sabalenka. However, she succumbed to Camila Giorgi and had to settle for the runner-up trophy. It was a similar story in Wimbledon as well where Pliskova moved past Sabalenka in the semis, only to lose to Barty in the trophy match.
Combined with her finalist feat in the Italian Open, there have been three instances this year where the Czech has reached a final but couldn’t go the distance.
At the same time, she has seen her fair share of losses to lower-ranked players like Sloane Stephens, Pegula, Anastasia Gasanova, and Giorgi. Jil Teichmann is certainly no exception in this regard.

Career-Defining Run for Teichmann
World No. 76 Jil Teichmann is having the tournament of a lifetime as she looks to reach her first WTA1000 final on the tour.
Her exploits in Cincinnati includes opening-round wins over Sorana Cirstea and Bernarda Pera. In the third round, the 24-year-old met the World No. 2 Naomi Osaka and knocked her out 3-6, 6-3, 6-3 to set up a quarterfinal clash with the Olympic Gold winner Belinda Bencic.
Against all odds, Teichmann continued her heroic run and delivered the upset by defeating her compatriot 6-3, 6-3 to reach the semis.
In all fairness, Teichmann has proven her mettle by reaching this stage in a couple of other hard-court events earlier this year. The Swiss was a semifinalist in the Adelaide International and WTA Dubai, in addition to being a quarterfinalist in the Phillip Island Trophy.
On clay and grass, she struggled a great deal to emulate those runs but now that she is back on hard courts, Teichmann appears to be in her element.

Pliskova will start as the favourite but her opponent has already delivered a string of upsets in Cincinnati and she can just as easily add Pliskova to the list.
