Katerina Siniakova v Nagi Hanatani Head to Head

This will be a first meeting between the two.

Siniakova Eliminates the Eighth Seed

The Czech needed just an hour and 26 minutes to knock out the eighth seed Shelby Rogers in the first round on Monday.

Getting broken just once in the match, Siniakova converted four of 10 break points for a 7-5, 6-1 win.

The Czech, who beat Jelena Ostapenko and Garbine Muguruza, en route to the Round of 16 in Cincinnati, was a finalist in Hamburg earlier this season, a semifinalist in Parma and had two quarterfinal finishes in Istanbul and Prague.

So the World No. 53 has been effective on all surfaces this year and it seems only a matter of time when she adds to her two singles titles that she won in 2017.

Winning titles in doubles doesn’t seem to be a problem for the 25-year-old, who reached five doubles finals with Barbora Krejcikova this year, winning four of those titles, which included the French Open and the Tokyo Olympics gold.

Luck Keeps Favouring Hanatani

She wasn’t even suppose to be in the main draw, but Japan’s Nagi Hanatani will now be playing in the second round of the tournament on Wednesday, as the lucky loser got luckier on Monday, after her first-round opponent Ana Blinkova retired after just one game in the match.

Ranked 402nd in the world, Hanatani had defeated the United States’ Eleana Yu 6-3, 2-6, 6-2 in the first qualifying round, but lost the second qualifying round to Norway’s Ulrikke Eikeri 6-2, 4-6, 1-6. The 26-year-old still found a place in the main draw as a lucky loser, and didn’t have to do much on her main draw debut as the Russian retired.

She will be a rank outsider against the Czech on Wednesday and her sole aim would probably be to win a couple of games against the World No. 53.
