Svitolina Routs Mladenovic

Delivering a near flawless performance, top seed Elina Svitolina destroyed Kristina Mladenovic in the quarterfinals on Thursday to storm into her third tour-level semifinal of the season. The Ukrainian needed just 55 minutes to hand the Frenchwoman a 6-1, 6-0 drubbing.

It was the third French player that Svitolina defeated in the tournament. The World No. 6 had beaten Clara Burel in the first round and Fiona Ferro in the second. Both of those matches saw Svitolina struggled with her service games, but the Ukrainian seemed to have addressed that issue on Thursday, as she didn’t face a single break point in the match.

Winning 89% first serve points, Svitolina won 74% points on her serve and 60% of the points while receiving, breaking her opponent five times in the contest.

A 15-time champion on the tour, the Olympic bronze medallist is yet to reach final this year. She made it to the semifinals in Miami and Stuttgart but was denied a spot in the final by Ashleigh Barty on both the occasions.

Peterson had begun her campaign with a 7-6 (11-9), 7-6 (8-6) win over Marie Bouzkova – a contest that lasted two hours and 49 minutes. In her second round on Wednesday, the World No. 59 defeated the sixth seed Viktorija Golubic 7-6 (7-5), 6-3.
