World number one Novak Djokovic begins the quest for two unique records. Firstly, to be the first man since Rod Laver 52 years ago and the first tennis player since Steffi Graf in 1988 to win all four majors in the same calendar year.
He is also seeking to win his 21st Grand Slam title and break the three-way tie he is in right now for 20 titles with Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal.
It has been a phenomenal year for the Serb, who won the Aussie Open ( defeating Medvedev), French Open (defeating Tsitsipas) and Wimbledon (defeating Berrettini) and in turn set himself up for a shot at the Golden Grand Slam in an Olympic year.
While he lost to eventual gold medalist Alexander Zverev in the semi-finals of the Tokyo Olympics and then to Pablo Carreno Busta in the bronze medal match, Djokovic will be happy to have missed the North American hard court season so far and appear straight at the US Open.
The Serb will look to start afresh after the losses in Tokyo with the eye on the grand prize that maybe awaiting him at the end of the two weeks in New York.

Major Debut For Rune
18-year old Holger Rune from Denmark has been on the tour for a season and a half and has seen many ‘firsts’ in the time.
Rune won his first ITF title in 2020 and then made three more ITF finals, winning two of them further. He won more ITF titles this season, when he also won his maiden ATP Challenger title.
The Danish teenager made his ATP debut at the Argentina Open this season and followed it with a quarter-final appearance at the Chile Open soon thereafter. He appeared at the Swedish and Austrian Opens during the clay swing and recorded notable victories against the likes of Benoit Paire and Radu Albot and broke into the top 150 in the world this summer.
Having qualified for his first major now, he plays the world number one Novak Djokovic, who he practiced with for a while this summer in Monte Carlo.
Djokovic v Rune Prediction and Tip
In a match of contrasts, Rune is making his grand slam debut against Djokovic aiming for a calendar slam and title#21 that would put him at the top of the table.
It is a big occasion and a revered opponent for Rune and expect a straight sets win for the world number one.
