Diyas Looking for Second Win over American
Diyas arrives in New York ranked outside the top 100, despite being a former top 40 player. She holds a 9-7 W/L ratio on the hard courts throughout the 2021 season.
The 27-year-old has reached 2 quarterfinals this year, like her opponent. Firstly, on the clay of Lausanne, where she defeated Waltert and Giorgi in the opening rounds without dropping a set. Diyas lost in the quarters to Garcia 7-5 6-2.
Her most recent quarterfinal came just last week on the ITF circuit in Chicago, where she defeated Brengle and Errani in the 1st and 2nd round, losing in the quarters to American Li 6-4 2-6 6-3.
The Kazakh knows what it takes to defeat Anisimova, at a slam, as well, so this will give her confidence. However, Diyas will have to play better than her current ranking if she stands a chance of making the second round to play either McNally or Pliskova.
