Pera Looking for Hard-Court Form

Pera arrives in New York currently ranked 84th, and based on her recent results, is not in her best form throughout 2021. The American has failed to string together back-to-back match wins throughout the 2021 season and holds a 4-9 Win/Loss ratio on the hard courts.

The American endured a winning drought, spanning from the 10th February, where she lost to Diyas at the Australian open in the second round. Pera failed to win a matched until late April where she successfully navigated her way through Madrid qualifying, seeing of Bolsova Zadoinov and Hercog in 3-set battles.

The 26-year-old then won her opening round against an out-of-form Martic, before succumbing to Bencic in a tight 3-set battle, narrowly losing 3-6 6-1 7-6(5).

The American has been dealt a decent draw in New York, she has always beaten Zidansek twice so she knows that it takes, however, she will have to play well to overcome the Slovenian. A win would likely set up an encounter with 2nd seed Sabalenka.

Third Time Lucky for Zidansek?

Zidansek has really established herself on the tour this year, especially posing herself as a top clay-court player.

The Slovenian made a name for herself at the French Open this year, making it all the way to the semi-finals and recorded some impressive wins against the likes of Andreescu and Badosa. Zidansek eventually fell short against Pavlyuchenkova 7-5 6-3.

Tamara Zidansek lifted silverware on the clay of Lausanne, Switzerland just over a month ago, beating Melnikova, Minella, Bronzetti, Zanevska along the way and finally ousting Burel in the final 4-6 7-6(5) 6-1 to live the trophy. The Slovenian has posted an impressive 21-6 record on clay for the 2021 season.

However, her 5-8 Win/Loss ratio on hard courts is less impressive, a stat that Zidansek will hope to improve in New York and finally record her first win against Pera.

Pera v Zidansek Prediction and Tip

It is likely to be a close match between these two players, both players have negative Win/loss ratios on the hard courts. However, despite being the higher-ranked player, Pera is the slight favourite to advance to round 2 due to her impressive power and clean ball striking.
