Alex De Minaur v Taylor Fritz Head to Head

De Minaur has a commanding 4-0 lead in the series. Three of those meetings came on hard courts including the Atlanta final in 2019 in Fritz’s home country.

De Minaur Yet to Hit Ground Running After Covid

Alex De Minaur could have caused serious damage at the Olympic Games but tested positive for coronavirus on the eve of the tournament. That hampered Australia’s preparations in the men’s tournament big time, as his replacement Max Purcell only managed to reach the second round.

De Minaur snapped a three-match losing at last week’s Cincinnati Masters, overcoming the first-set whitewash against Filip Krajinovic to win in three sets.

Since winning the Eastbourne title (fifth career title) on the lawns, the 22-year-old lost Sebastian Korda, Steve Johnson, and Nikoloz Basilashvili while he was instilled as the bookies’ favorite each time.

But on the back of a confidence-boosting win at the Western & Southern Open, and overcoming the ill-effects of covid, De Minaur has a blueprint of making a major statement in New York against an opponent he has beaten four times in the past.

Can Fritz Eradicate Head-to-Head Record?

Not only is Taylor Fritz looking to post his first win in five tries against De Minaur, but he will simultaneously target a first win in four matches.

Fritz has lost four matches to Australia’s top-ranked male player, dating back to the Surbiton Challenger in 2018. And remarkably, he hasn’t managed to take a single set.

Since reaching back-to-back semifinals in Los Cabos and Atlanta, the 42nd-ranked American has suffered a massive dip in form. Defeats to Denis Kudla, James Duckworth, and most recently to Albert Ramos Vinolas have given Fritz food for thought in his preparations for the final Grand Slam of 2021.

On a personal level, this has been a very decent season for the man from San Diego. But his inconsistencies continue to hamper his progress. He is 20-16 for the season, but he is yet to account for any titles.

De Minaur v Fritz Prediction and Tip

Neither player enters this match in good form, but that astonishing head-to-head record is hard to ignore. Plus, De Minaur will look to atone for his Wimbledon first-round defeat to Seb Korda.
