Petra Kvitova v Maria Sakkari Head to Head

Kvitova and Sakkari have been involved in as many as five head-to-head clashes, with the former holding a slender 3-2 lead. They last played each other in the last-16 at Stuttgart, with the veteran Czech star prevailing in three sets.

Kvitova Goes Past Pliskova

Coming into the US Open on the back of a quarter-final finish at the Cincinnati Masters, Kvitova opened her campaign against Polona Hercog of Slovenia.

A two-time Grand Slam champion, the veteran Czech star brought all her experience into play to carve out a clinical win over the Slovenian. Hercog was simply no match for the current World No.11 as the Kvitova blasted her way into the second round.

The win saw the seasoned campaigner set up a second-round showdown against fellow Czech star and this year’s losing finalist at Wimbledon Championships, Karolina Pliskova.

After quelling some bit of resistance from Pliskova in the opening set, which went to a tiebreak and eventually fell in favor of Kvitova, the latter stepped on the gas and raced to a commanding win in the second to prevail in straight sets.

However, between the Czech star and a place in the fourth-round stands big-hitting Greek star Maria Sakkari. The latter got the better of a Czech rival in her second-round outing and will be keen scalp another in her next.

Sakkari Has No Problems against Siniakova

Continuing her steady climb up the echelons of women’s tennis following a stunning campaign at this year’s Miami Open that saw her reaching the semifinal, Sakkari stormed to the last-four at Roland-Garros before going down in a knife-edged semifinal against eventual champion Barbora Krejcikova of the Czech Republic.

After a disappointing second-round loss at the Wimbledon Championships, the current World No.18 regained a semblance of form in the North American hard-court leg, finishing in the last 16 of the Canadian Open.

However, an opening-round loss to three-time Grand Slam champion Angelique Kerber at the Cincinnati Masters threatened to undo all the positives that she garnered from her run at Montreal.

But the 26-year-old Greek managed to stop the rut before it got worse as she opened her US Open campaign with a straight-set win over Marta Kostyuk of Ukraine.

Taking the confidence from her opening-round win, Sakkari produced scintillating tennis against Siniakova in her next to cruise into round 3.

In Kvitova, she faces a familiar foe, who has had more match wins over her, in the third round. Though Sakkari, on current form, would fancy going level with the Czech on the head-to-head count, the two-time Grand Slam champion will be a hard nut to crack.

Kvitova v Sakkari Prediction and Tip

Kvitova and Sakkari would go into this third-round clash evenly matched and with a similar run of results behind them. However, with two Grand Slam titles to her credit, the Czech star is a past master at winning at this level and will be a slight favorite.
