Djokovic Comes Through Brooksby Contest

World number one Novak Djokovic continues his quest for two unique records, i.e to complete the calendar slam and to break  the three-way tie he is in right now for 20 titles with Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal.

After a somewhat challenging third round against Kei Nishikori, Djokovic came into the fourth round on Labor Day Monday at Arthur Ashe Stadium against 20-year-old American Wild Card Jenson Brooksby who has been on a good run during this US Open Series in particular.

The young American was off to a flier breaking Djokovic twice and closing the set 6-1 in no time, much to the surprise of tennis experts and the delight of the holiday crowd.

Although the Serb broke early in the second set to go up 3-1, the players were locked in an almost twenty minute game, where Brooksby broke back to get the set back on serve. The world number one continued to up the level as Brooksby started to lose momentum as Djokovic captured the set 6-3.

The third and fourth sets were on similar tracks with early double breaks for the 20-time major winner enabling him to continue to put pressure on the American as he closed each set 6-2 despite his younger opponent hanging in and putting up a spirited show.

The world number one fended off a challenge from a young and inspired Brooksby who got some kind words from Djokovic at the net, as the Serb now comes within three games of history on the line for him.

Another Slam Quarter-Final For Berrettini

It has been a strong season for the Italian breaking into the top eight in the rankings, looking sharp Down Under, making the quarter-finals at the French Open, the finals of the Madrid Masters 1000 and being runner-up at Wimbledon.

Berrettini  only played in Cincinnati since Wimbledon and has had a few niggles and looked a little rusty ever since.

Coming into the round of 16, it had not been the easiest of runs for the Italian as he was pushed to four sets by Frenchman Corentin Moutet and five sets by young Ilya Ivashka of Belarus.

Playing little known German Oscar Otte in the round of 16, Berrettini took the first set but the German hung in to push the Italian and soon the match was tied at a set apiece.

The number six seed looked a bit scratchy but upped his level to clinch the third set and when the German tumbled early in the fourth and hurt his hand, one knew it was one way traffic thereafter as Berrettini booked a quarter-final spot in four sets.

Djokovic v Berrettini Prediction and Tip

For the third time in a row, the two players meet in the second week of a major. While Berrettini has improved immensely this season, this is the one challenge he has not been able to overcome. Expect another four set win for the world number one.
