Donna Vekic v Ana Konjuh Head to Head

Vekic and Konjuh have never featured in a head-to-head clash before. However, they would have seen enough of each other on the women’s Tour will which help shape their game plans as they go into the first match opposite each other.

Vekic Fell to Muguruza in US Open Opener

With not enough wins under her belt and unflattering returns from her recent court outings — a third-round finish at the Canadian Open followed by the failure to clear the qualifying hurdles at the prestigious Cincinnati Masters, Vekic arrived at the US Open with her confidence somewhere down by her ankles.

Currently ranked 57th in singles, Vekic opened her campaign against two-time Grand Slam champion Garbine Muguruza.

Though her confidence was at a low ebb, the Croat made a match out of it and gave the seasoned Spaniard a real scare before going down in straight sets.

Just to illustrate how close the match was, both sets went into a tiebreak. However, Muguruza managed to pip the Croat on both occasions to eventually come away with a  hard-fought win.

While the year’s last Grand Slam ended early for Vekic, the 25-year-old has a chance to redeem herself against compatriot Ana Konjuh in the opening round of the Slovenian Open on Monday.

However, she won’t have it easy against her fellow countrywoman, who, though not in the best of firm at the minute, is no less a competitor.

Konjuh Didn’t Last Long at US Open

With the stunning takedown of 2020 French Open champion Iga Swiatek at the Miami Open earlier in the season, Konjuh seemed to be catching up on the years lost in the circuit because of injury setbacks.

She reached the final of the of the Serbia Open before another niggle mid-match saw her forfeiting the championship clash to Spain’s Paula Badosa.

Taking the positives from a few more decent outings on court, the Croat opened the  North American hard-court leg with a run to the semifinals of the Silicon Valley Classic.

However, just when she was hoping build on her last-four finish and eye a strong run at the US Open, her form went pear-shaped. After an opening-round loss at the Chicago Challenger, she arrived at the Flushing Meadows hoping that the famed arena would inspire her to give off her best.

She did raise hopes of a strong run after clearing the qualifiers with relative ease. However, she couldn’t get past Canadian Leylah Fernandez, the eventual losing finalist, in the opening round.

The Croat, currently ranked 88th in singles, would hope for better returns  as she opens her Slovenian Open campaign against compatriot Vekic on Monday.

Though they haven’t faced each other before, Konjuh would hope to bring her naturally aggressive to the fore against her fellow countrywoman and give herself the best chance  of progressing to the next round.

Vekic v Konjuh Prediction and Tip

With no head-to-head clashes between them, it would come down to a battle of percentages in this first-round clash between Vekic and Konjuh. However, Vekic, with her superior ranking, will have the odds slightly in her favor.
