Ekaterina Alexandrova v Clara Tauson Head to Head

They met once in Lyon earlier this year with Tauson winning in straight sets.

Alexandrova Holds Off Voegele

Alexandrova held off a spirited Stefanie Voegele in the opening round in Luxembourg on Monday.

The Russian dominated the first set, breaking her opponent thrice, while getting broken just once to wrap up the set with ease.

The Swiss found herself a break down early in the second as well, but she got it back in the sixth game and then saved five break points in the seventh to prevent Alexandrova from restoring her advantage. Voegele broke the Russian’s serve for a second time in the set in the next game and then held on to force the decider.

In the third, it was Alexandrova who seized the early initiative to go 4-2 up, but Voegele wiped off the advantage in the next game, only to see the Russian break back again and then hold on for a 6-1, 3-6, 6-3 victory in an hour and 48 minutes.

The win improved the 26-year-old to 21-18 this season, and she is now a win away from reaching her sixth quarterfinal this year. A semifinalist at the Gippsland Trophy, Alexandrova reached the last eight in St. Petersburg, Stuttgart, Strasbourg and Berlin.

Tauson Breezes Past Sharma

The 18-year-old Clara Tauson began her campaign in style, knocking out Australia’s Astra Sharma in straight sets.

Dominating the contest from start to finish, the Dane broke her opponent twice in each set for a 6-2, 6-2 win in an hour and 13 minutes. Tauson saved all three of the break points that she faced in the match and was very good on serve, winning 89% first serve points and 50% second serve points, while serving six aces.

Tauson, who captured her first WTA title as a qualifier in Lyon, had begun that tournament with a shock win over the top seed Alexandrova before going all the way to capturing the title by defeating Viktorija Golubic in the final.

A solid player on hard surfaces, Tauson clinched the WTA 125 in Chicago last month by defeating Emma Raducanu in the final. She has also won two ITF titles this year and made considerable progress in the WTA rankings, from 152 at the end of the year last year to a career-high of 70 this week.

Alexandrova v Tauson Prediction and Tip

Beaten once by Tauson, Alexandrova will look to get her revenge against the Dane. Expect the fourth seed Russian to come out on top this time around.
