World no. 44 Yulia Putintseva marched into quarterfinals of of the Slovenian Open with second straight sets win in the tournament.

The second seed, who defeated Romania’s Jaqueline Cristian 6-4, 6-4 in the first round, needed just 73 minutes to end Katie Boulter’s challenge in the tournament on Wednesday.

Broken just once by the Briton, Putintseva converted 2 of 3 break points in the first set and 3 of 4 in the second to win the contest 6-3, 6-1. In what was another dominant performance, Putintseva won 67% points on her serve and 60% points on return.

The win improved the 26-year-old to 24-20 this season. She has already won a title this season, on clay in Budapest, and will be featuring in a fifth quarterfinal, having also reached that stage in Charleston, Strasbourg and San Jose.

Bronzetti Battles Past Pera

Playing in just her third WTA main draw, Italy’s Lucia Bronzetti reached a third quarterfinal defeating the United States’ Bernarda Pera in three sets on Wednesday.

The Italian, ranked no. 167th in the world, converted 8 of 17 break points while saving 6 of 13 to win the two-hour-and-30-minute duel 2-6, 6-3, 6-3.

In a match that saw 184 points Bronzetti won 97 of them, 10 more than the World no. 90.

The 22-year-old Italian, who had come through the qualifiers, had knocked out the seventh seed Rebecca Peterson 6-3, 6-3 in the first round on Tuesday.

Bronzetti had also rallied from a set down to win her first qualifying round against Hungary’s Fanny Stollar and then beaten Britain’s Samantha Murray Sharan in straight sets in the second qualifying round.

The Italian had also made the quarterfinals in both her previous two main draw appearances on the tour, reaching the last eight in Lausanne and Palermo in July.

Putintseva v Bronzetti Prediction and Tip

With a 52-18 record across levels, Bronzetti has been very impressive this season and she continues to impress on the tour. However, she may find the going tough against the more accomplished Putintseva. Expect the Kazakh to maintain her dominant run in the tournament and book a place in a second semifinal this season.
