Olympic Bronze Medallist Carreno-Busta

Carreno-Busta has already won two clay court titles in 2021, in Marbella in April and Hamburg in July, and from there travelled to the Olympics from which he returned with the bronze medal.

He reached the third #round in Cincinnati and Winston-Salem, but then suffered a shock defeat in the first round of the US Open, where he was the number nine seed. He was two sets up on Maxime Cressy but still allowed the American to fight back and to take the match.

He was given a bye in the first round and this will be his first match on an indoor hard court since losing to compatriot Rafael Nadal at the Paris Masters last November.

However, he did reach the quarter-final the last time this event was played.

Ymer Enjoying a Fine Season

Prior to this year, Ymer had never played in a quarter-final before on the main tour, but he reached the last eight in Gstaad and Kitzbuhel, and went all the way to the final in Winston-Salem.

There he had the misfortune to meet Ilya Ivashka who was in devastating form that day and was thrashed in straight sets, winning just two games.

Ymer suffered a disappointing first round defeat to Jenson Brooksby at the US Open, but opened his campaign in Metz with an impressive straight sets defeat of the German Jan-Lennard Struff on Tuesday.

Both men had break points, particularly Struff in the first set, but it went with serve until the 12th game, when, serving to stay in the set, the German gave one break opportunity which Ymer duly took.

The pair started the second set by exchanging service breaks, but then the Swede broke once more, and was rarely troubled after that.

Carreno-Busta v Ymer Prediction and Tip

Ymer is in fine form this season, and enjoyed an encouraging first-round victory, but Carreno-Busta is a proven winner on the main tour, and have too many shots in his arsenal for the Swede.
