Petra Kvitova v Jil Teichmann Head to Head

In their one and only meeting on the WTA Tour, Teichmann emerged as the winner although, it was due to Kvitova’s retirement from that match. The match took place in the 2021 WTA Dubai where the Czech retired at 2-6, 4-3.

Kvitova Survives Potapova

World No. 10 Petra Kvitova arrived for the J&T Banka Ostrava Open after a string of mixed results in the US Open Series – third-round exit in Montreal and New York, and quarterfinal run in Cincinnati.

Starting as the No. 2 seed with a bye into the second round, the Czech met the Russian qualifier Anastasia Potapova in her opening match. Despite the abundance of experience and a much superior pedigree, Kvitova faced heavy resistance from the 20-year-old to reach the quarterfinals.

In a match that lasted for three sets, the reigning Qatar Open champion trumped with 6-1, 6-7(4), 6-3 in a little over two hours.

Looking at her overall season, it has been a bit shaky, to say the least. Among her key highlights are a quarterfinal run in Stuttgart and a semifinal appearance in Bad Homburg. Clearly not the best of the year she has had over her career, but she still remains a formidable opponent to face in any competition.

Teichmann, Enjoying a Career-Defining Season

So far in Ostrava, Jil Teichmann has proven herself to be a worthy player capable of going the distance. In the opener, the 24-year-old Swiss dispatched the former World No. 1 Angelique Kerber 6-2, 6-3. In the next round, she met the American Alison Riske and battled three sets to emerge as the winner with 6-3, 1-6, 6-4.

Even though consistency hasn’t been a strong suit for Teichmann (yet), she has delivered some impressive results on hard courts.

Earlier in the season, she reached the semis at the WTA Adelaide and Dubai. On clay and grass, her form took a sharp hit but she revived herself in the American swing.

Teichmann delivered the best performance of her career in the Cincinnati Open, where she defeated the likes of Naomi Osaka, Belinda Bencic, and Karolina Pliskova to reach the final. Even though she had to settle for the runner-up trophy after losing to Ashleigh Barty, it was still a run that put her on the map.

Her last event was the US Open where she fell in round two to Anett Kontaveit.

Kvitova v Teichmann Prediction and Tip

Kvitova will start as the favourite but Teichmann is an adversary not to be taken lightly. The Czech is shaky and battling inconsistencies while Teichmann is looking sharper than ever. Expect another three-setter here.
