Iga Swiatek v Maria Sakkari Head to Head
In their one and only encounter on the WTA Tour, Sakkari emerged as the champion. The meeting took place in the French Open earlier this season where the Greek won 6-4, 6-4.

World No. 6 Iga Swiatek has had an excellent run in Ostrava so far. Starting as the top seed with a bye into the second round, she defeated the likes of Yulia Putintseva (6-4, 6-4) and Elena Rybakina (7-6(5), 6-2) in straight sets to reach the semis.
With this performance, the 20-year-old Polish is just two wins away from winning her third singles title in 2021.
The first one came in the Adelaide International where she defeated Belinda Bencic in the final while the second one was the Italian Open where she upset big guns like Barbora Krejcikova, Elina Svitolina, and Karolina Pliskova to lift the trophy.
Swiatek followed that with a quarterfinal appearance in the French Open and fourth-round stints in the Wimbledon and US Open. Looking at her overall season, there have been only a few instances where she has fallen in the early rounds.
Needless to say, it has been an incredible year for Swiatek who is now placed at her career-best singles ranking. She now has an opportunity to avenge her Paris loss to Sakkari.

Sakkari, Inching Closer to a Top 10 Entry
World No. 12 Maria Sakkari has had a phenomenal spell in 2021 – perhaps just as great as Swiatek’s to some extent.
The 26-year-old Greek reached the semifinal at the French Open and most recently, the US Open where she knocked out Petra Kvitova, Bianca Andreescu, and Karolina Pliskova. Sakkari reached the same stage at the WTA Abu Dhabi, Grampians Trophy, and Miami Open as well. In fact, it is on the foundation of these runs that she reached her highest singles ranking yet – again, just like Swiatek.
The number four seed has done well to carry forward that momentum from New York to Ostrava, where she defeated Jelena Ostapenko and Tereza Martincova, all in straight sets.
Interestingly enough, Sakkari hasn’t won a singles title since the 2019 Morocco Open – her one and only WTA trophy to date. But the fact that she still managed to make great leaps on the tour despite a winning run tells us about the kind of consistent performer she is.
Swiatek v Sakkari Prediction and Tip
This is an evenly matched fixture that can very well go either way. Swiatek will start as the favourite but Sakkari is just as likely to win this game.
