Marketa Vondrousova v Ajla Tomljanovic Head to Head
Tomljanovic leads head-to-head 2-1, winning matches in St. Petersburg (2020) and most recently on the clay courts of Rome this season. Vondrousova’s solitary win also came on clay in Istanbul in 2019.

Marketa Vondorusova will be playing her 18th tournament of 2021. That may not be a substantial statistic, but it is a measure of Vondrousova’s improving fitness. This is the first time since 2018 that she has managed to rack up this many tournaments in her schedule.
The Czech lefty has won 25 matches a possible 42, and the jewel on the crown remains the silver medal she captured for her country at the Tokyo Olympics.
Vondrousova made her second semifinal of the season at tour-level at last weekend’s Luxembourg Open, pushing the eventual champion Clara Tauson to three sets.
The 22-year-old has a modest 5-4 record on American hard courts this season, reaching the third round of the Miami Open and the quarterfinals of the Chicago Women’s Open.
Aside from that, she lost Belinda Bencic in their Olympics final rematch in Cincinnati and was beaten in three sets by Daria Kasatkina in the second round of the US Open.

Tomljanovic Extends US stay
Since losing the third round of the US Open to Karolina Pliskova, Ajla Tomljanovic hasn’t quite featured at any WTA tournament across Europe. Tomljanovic could have tailored her schedule with her eyes on the rescheduled BNP Paribas Open set to kick off next month.
The 28-year-old Australian’s best result of 2021 remains her quarterfinal showing at Wimbledon – her career-best at Grand Slam level.
Tomljanovic is 19-18 for the year and has had a few niggling injuries to contend with, which have disrupted her momentum in patches. The Aussie will be aiming to return to the world’s top 40 with a deep run at this week’s Chicago Classic.
Tomljanovic is just six spots below her career-high ranking of World No. 39.
