Amanda Anisimova v Katrina Scott Head to Head

The two players have met just once on the WTA Tour – in last year’s US Open. Anisimova won that second-round encounter with 4-6, 6-4, 6-1.

Anisimova Looking to Reclaim her Former Glory

One of the very first instances of Amanda Anisimova making a name for herself on the tour came right here in the Indian Wells Open, back in 2018. The then 17-year-old reached the fourth round after upsetting Pauline Parmentier, Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, and Petra Kvitova – punching well above her weight.

A year later, she ascended to the No. 21 spot in the rankings and left her mark on the tour before falling out of the top 50. So if there is a tournament for the young American to reignite her form, the courts in the valley are certainly the way to go about it.

The 2019 French Open semifinalist has had a muted season in 2021, as evident from her current ranking of World No. 81.

With a win-loss tally of 16-15, Anisimova is looking to shake the blues at her home tournament. Her best results this year include reaching the fourth round in the Canadian Open as a qualifier, and a couple of quarterfinal appearances in WTA Parma and WTA Bad Homburg. Anisimova’s last stint was in the Chicago Fall Tennis Classic where she lost in round two to Elina Svitolina.

Scott, Just Starting her Career

17-year-old Katrina Scott made her WTA main draw debut only last season at the Flushing Meadows. Starting with a straight-set win over Natalia Vikhlyantseva, she reached the second round where she succumbed to Anisimova.

A year later, Scott finds herself in similar circumstances albeit, a bit more experienced. The youngster has spent a majority of her time practising on the ITF circuit (her best run there came in Evansville where she reached the semis) with a couple of cameos in the Miami Open and Charleston Open. Not so surprisingly, Scott lost both of her opening matches there – with the latter coming in the qualifiers.

In more recent weeks, Scott has featured in a few WTA125K series events in Charleston, Concord, and Columbus but didn’t make much out of them.

Anisimova v Scott Prediction and Tip

Anisimova will start as the favourite but given her shaky form of late, Scott may very well deliver the upset. Expect an intriguing game of tennis.
